I
think of the messianic era as the gradual takeover of the temporary by the
permanent; the finite by the Infinite.
God is the only truly permanent existence.
Everything else is temporary relative to Him. Relative to each other, some are
more temporary and some less so. But regardless, they are all temporary
relative to Him.
Temporary is
a relative word. Even among the multitude of temporary things, some exhibit
more permanence than others. Of course, this permanence is only a relative one.
It only means that despite being temporary, they stably outlast what’s even
more fleeting.
In the hierarchy of spiritual realms,
higher realms and their inhabitants are relatively more permanent than the
lower ones are. The lowest realm, the most temporary, is our physical universe.
The real gravitational pull, driving all
reality, is towards the true permanence, God - the Infinite One. Everything is
magnetically attracted to the ultimate Source. Therefore, temporary states are
in gradual roll back, stage by stage, one at a time. With each roll back, that
realm merges into an underlying more permanent one, exposing its spiritual light.
The process continues on and on, until at the very end the very last remaining
trace of the temporary merges into and is seamlessly assimilated by the
ultimate permanence, God.
The takeover process doesn't happen all at
once, but stage by stage - gradually, over a long period. This allows each
human being to engage in multiple levels of relationship with God. Each stage
offers a different intensity of connection, a relationship on a different
level.
Also, it does not begin with our realm
immediately merging into the embrace of the next higher realm. Our realm is not
yet ready for that. It needs a preparatory period.
Within our physical realm, there are some
periods which are more spiritual than others and thus, more permanent. The
spiritually dark period which we have been in for the past thousands of years,
largely driven by ego and selfishness, is only a temporary stage. Since it is
spiritually weak it really doesn’t possess the endurance of the period to come
- the messianic era, which is filled with spiritual light, wisdom, love and
selflessness. So before our realm merges with any higher realm, our current
period will merge into the messianic era.
During the messianic era our realm will
spiritually evolve an alignment of sorts with the higher realm just above. The
alignment will cause it to start resembling the higher realm, arousing strong
bonds of attraction between the two realms. In the glow of this attraction,
union will take place and our realm will have merged into one above.
And the process will continue on and on and
on and...
